It is a 3 years fixed-term position, with the possibility of a 4th year with compulsory work (e.g. teaching and decentralized competence development).The Centre for the Science of Learning & Technology (SLATE) located at the Faculty of Psychology is a learning sciences research centre. SLATE carries out interdisciplinary research on the technological, pedagogical, cultural, ethical, and legal aspects of learning analytics (LA) and artificial intelligence in education (AIEd) and promote the responsible use of technology in education. We are a dynamic and including milieu of around 23 persons, including faculty, researchers, adjuncts, postdocs, PhDs candidates, and support staff. All employees are expected to contribute to the success of the centre.About the positionWe are looking for a motivated and dedicated forward-thinking individual to join our team as a learning analytics researcher specialising in artificial intelligence in education. In this role, you will focus on cutting-edge research in the field of education, in higher education and/or K-12 schools, in particular tied to natural language processing and generative AI. Your primary responsibilities will involve conducting in-depth research, analysing educational data, and designing innovative AI-driven solutions to address critical challenges in the education sector. Collaborating closely with fellow researchers and educators, you will contribute to advancing our understanding of how AI and learning analytics can enhance learning outcomes and educational practices. If you are passionate about pushing the boundaries of knowledge in education and possess a strong research background in the learning science, we invite you to be a part of our team and contribute to shaping the future of education through rigorous inquiry and innovation.The successful candidate will:work to help SLATE meet its broad national mandate through collaboration on projects and initiativesparticipate in cutting edge research in the LA & AI projects, in an international contextcontribute to the Centre’s visibility and publish this research on an international levelcontribute to communicating project results and knowledge about the project in relevant arenasparticipate in developing SLATE´s teaching portfolio, including a new Master in Learning Sciences and PhD courses related to 21st Century Skills such as collaboration and problem solvingparticipate in supervision of PhD candidates, Master, and potentially Bachelor students in cooperation with the line manager, when feasibletake part in the development and implementation of continuing and further education, censorship/exam work, and other professional administrative tasks at the Centrecontributes to the Centre´s dissemination, information work, and community contact.be a mentor for junior researcherscontribute to strategy work within the Centre’s mission and apply as PI or co-PI for competitive external fundingQualifications and personal qualitiesApplicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in Learning Sciences and technology design, Education Data Science, or related fields, complemented by relevant experienceDemonstrable experience and knowledge in natural language processing, computational methods, and use of text as dataExperience in school/higher education classroom research, qualitative and quantitative research and analytical techniquesResearch experience in collaboration with both primary/secondary and tertiary education professionalsUniversity-level teaching experiencesA research emphasis on natural language processing, generative AI, and data literacy in Education, will be an assetEvidence of national and international collaboration in education researchA history of independently overseeing specific segments of a research projectDemonstrated research track record with peer-reviewed publications in peer-reviewed international journalsAbility to work independently, strong personal commitment, teamwork & cooperation skills, administrative skills, creativity, determinationExperience of generating research fundingFluent oral and written communication skills in EnglishLast, but not least, enthusiasm about, high commitment for, and enjoyment in researchAbout the position of postdoctoral research fellowThe position of postdoctoral research fellow is a fixed-term appointment with the primary objective of qualifying the appointee for work in top academic positions. The fixed-term period for this position is 3 years, with the possibility of a 4th year. Individuals may not be hired for more than one fixed-term period as a postdoctoral research fellow at the same institution. Upon appointment, applicants must submit a project proposal for the qualifying work including a work schedule. For postdoctoral research fellow positions associated with externally financed projects, the completion of the project proposal for the qualifying work will take place in consultation with the project/centre manager.
