Kristiania University College is offering a fully funded PhD fellowship in information security Sustainability for a period of three (3) years beginning in January 2024. During this time, the successful applicant will be employed at the School of Economics, Innovation and Technology and included in a team of researchers with ambitious plans further to develop research and pedagogical activities at the university college.About Kristiania University CollegeKristiania University College is Norway's largest independent comprehensive university college with 18,000 students. This is equivalent to one semester of study. The remaining time is allocated to the development and completion of an independent research project, which takes the form of a written dissertation. The three-year employment period granted to the successful candidate may be reduced if the successful candidate has previously been employed in a PhD position.The successful candidate is expected to live and work in the Oslo region during the employment period and to take an active part in scholarly and social activities at Kristiania.About the projectInformation Security SustainabilityCybersecurity risk has become a significant Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) concern. UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the associated targets to be achieved by 2030 for sustainable development imply that information security and sustainability are strongly connected. Organizations face challenges in risk mitigation within the context of sustainable development. For example, the high costs and energy consumption of security testing and management in Information Technology (IT) is a security sustainability challenge.This Ph.D. project's approach to information security is to evolve proper support to address this challenge by contributing to an intelligent, dynamic and agile risk analysis and management as an interdisciplinary project involving Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem. In addition to the research point of view, the result can affect the industry and improve the security level in their enterprise management. The study aims to develop a comprehensive and intelligent framework for sustainable IoT security that considers the unique challenges posed by IoT devices and systems, including their scalability, heterogeneity, and interconnectedness.The successful candidate must design an independent project that fits the theme and research in cybersecurity sustainability. The project must refer to time and human resource investment, and capital to mitigate risk, minimize the cost and energy consumption, and maximize effectiveness both now and in the long term. The successful candidate should also be able to argue that the project will contribute to the cybersecurity sustainability by answering questions such as:How can we effectively measure and analyze cybersecurity attack costs, security risk analysis, and management overhead in IoT domains while integrating standards like ISO families for sustainability?What intelligent models can assess information security threats and controls with lower costs, and how can they enhance cybersecurity analysis, management, and monitoring efficiency in smart IoT infrastructures?Qualifications and personal qualitiesRequired qualifications:Master's degree (ECTS or equivalent) in Information Security, ICT, Information Technology, or a similar/related field with a grade of B or better on the master's thesis and for the master's degree in total. The master's thesis must be a minimum of 30 ECTS or equivalent,Relevant 180 ECTS bachelor's degree,Proficiency in both written and spoken English,Experience in the IoT ecosystem and Artificial intelligenceStrong critical thinking and analysis skills, qualitative and quantitative research, and experimentation.Desired qualifications:Experience in Governance, Risk and compliance, and Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) is advantageous,Knowledge of different dimensions of sustainability is beneficial,Interest/experience in human aspects of cyber security is constructive,For initial investigation and deployment during the Ph.D., the candidate will also be required to interact with the industry and have strong communication skills to connect to a well-established international research network.Personal qualities: Curiosity and a strong motivation to carry out independent research,Good communication and cooperation skills,Excellent analytical skills,The ability, desire and capacity to work independently, systematically, and purposefully,Orientation toward the completion of projects and the attainment of goals,Emphasis will be placed on personal suitability for the position.Your application must include:A short cover letter (maximum 2 pages), including a brief account of your research interests and motivation for the position.Official Transcripts and Diplomas in a Scandinavian or English language.
