BeskrivelseJob descriptionApplications are invited for a three year position in a Research Fellowship as PhD Candidate in transplantation medicine to be based at The Norwegian PSC Research Center (NoPSC), Institute of Clinical Medicine, University of Oslo.Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a chronic liver disease for which no current therapy exists and which therefore is the most important indication for liver transplantation in Norway. NoPSC is a world-leading research center for the chronic liver disease primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). The center counts 35-40 employees from all over the world, covering all aspects of PSC-related research, from basic genomic and experimental studies to clinical research and clinical trials. (https://www.med.uio.no/klinmed/english/research/groups/primary-sclerosing-cholangitis/index.html).In our previous studies, we have identified a disease causing mutation for PSC and observed that mice with a similar mutation are more vulnerable to persistent biliary inflammation. This observation cannot be fully explained by known mechanisms related to immune resistance or regulation. Therefore, we now seek a highly motivated and creative co-worker to further explore the molecules involved in disease tolerance and tissue adaptation.More about the positionThe fellowship period is 3 years. The project aims to discover novel protective factors against persistent inflammation, utilizing unique mouse models. The work will be conducted in the experimental group at NoPSC, led by Professor Espen Melum, equipped with relevant techniques such as high-dimensional flow cytometry, 3D cell cultures, single-cell RNA sequencing, and spatial multi-omics. The findings are expected to have significant translational potential, and aims to contribute to the development of efficient treatment for PSC. The successful candidate must be admitted to the PhD program at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo with Researcher Xiaojun Jiang and Professor Espen Melum as key supervisors. The research fellow must take part in the University’s/ Faculty’s/ Department’s approved PhD program and is expected to complete the project within the set fellowship period.
