The university is located in three cities with headquarters in Trondheim.At NTNU, 9,000 employees and 43,000 students work to create knowledge for a better world.You can find more information about working at NTNU and the application process here.   About the JobWe have a vacancy for one Researcher position in the Marine Bioacoustics and Ecology Lab at the Marine Section of the Department of Biology, led by Prof. Ana Širović. The research in the group is focused on the development and use of acoustic methods to study the ecology of marine animals. Specifically, the researcher will primarily be responsible for assisting in a project focusing on the study of the dynamics of baleen whale occurrence in conjunction with their prey based on passive and active acoustic mooring data. Strong background in ecological modeling is essential for this position, but familiarity with baleen whale acoustic ecology will be considered a plus. The position will have partial teaching duties.  You will report to professor Ana Širović.Duties of the positionUse long-term passive acoustic data from combined passive-active moorings deployed in Southern California to develop ecological models of cetacean-prey interactions Submit publications to peer-reviewed journals Present research at national and international meetings Partial teaching duties Participate in regular lab activities: lab meetings, field logistic operations, collaboration with colleagues, etc. Required selection criteriaYou must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD You must have a professionally relevant background in marine biology/oceanography or ecological modeling Proficiency in ecological model development using long-term time series data Solid expertise in R, MATLAB, Python, or similar programming languages Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals Very good written and oral English language skills The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant.  Preferred selection criteriaExperience with cetacean acoustic data and knowledge of cetacean calling behaviour Experience in the analysis of long-term passive acoustic data Knowledge of ocean data repositories and experience extracting data from such sources Experience in academic teaching at the undergraduate and MSc level  Experience in project management Involvement or interest in outreach activities Personal characteristicsPersonal characteristics Reliable Proactive and positive attitude Organized / structured Self-motivated We offerexciting and stimulating tasks in a strong international academic environmentan open and inclusive work environment with dedicated colleaguesfavourable terms in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fundemployee benefitsSalary and conditionsThe gross salary for the position of a Researcher (code 1109) is normally remunerated at gross from NOK 604 900 before tax per year, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology.
