MUNCH museum holds the collection bequeathed to the City of Oslo by the artist Edvard Munch (1863-1944). It is a complex collection spanning more than 60 years of artistic production and encompassing close to 42.000 museum objects.The Museum is involved as Beneficiary in the EU proposal PERCEIVE (Perceptive Enhanced Realities of Colored collEctions through artificial Intelligence and Virtual Experiences) contributing to several work packages and giving access to research data and important artworks as case studies from its collection such as The Scream. PERCEIVE aims at creating a new way to perceive, preserve, curate, exhibit, understand and access colored Cultural Heritage collections and Digital Artworks, promoting their re-appropriation. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 101061157.MUNCH is leading the WG2 Scenario on Color change in paintings and is involved in the development and implementation of a design concept based on a 3-steps approach: (i) creation of a sense of embodiment and perception of authenticity; (ii) building a sense of wonder; (iii) developing a sense of care that, ultimately, would strengthen citizen perception of the fragility of these collections. The position is available for 11 months, 70%, starting in January 2024 and the successful candidate will under direct supervision of the Conservation Scientist. The candidate is expected to have accomplished the master degree by the time the contract starts.
Expected main tasks of the position The successful candidate will be involved in tasks related to WP2 (Scenarios: needs, requirements and training), WP3 (Material modelling and data management), and WP6 (Perceive experiences) of PERCEIVE project. The work will be run in an interdisciplinary environment working collaboratively with other partners/researchers from abroad and also other professionals in the museum. The position covers laboratory work (using equipment available in house or in collaboration with other partners), organizational and reporting tasks according the needs of the project, publication and conference presentations of results and other outputs.
Expected skills Expected professional skills:The interested applicant for the position has to have:A good knowledge of different analytical and imaging techniques of analysis for CH and a broad knowledge of modern colored art materials and techniques Experience in laboratory work and also proficiency with PC and equipment softwareResearch experience with multi-analytical and interdisciplinary approaches to color change phenomenaAbility to design an analytical protocol, to acquire, organize and interpretate complex sets of data Ability to work independently, flexibly and responsibly under the supervision of the Conservation Scientist and also to deliver timely the planned outputsExperience with European projects or working with international environments/people is appreciated but not mandatoryExcellent organizational and reporting skillsExcellent writing and publication skillsGood communication and problem solving skills Good English skills (both in writing and speaking)Expected academic level:Master degree in Conservation Science, Sciences for Cultural Heritage, Conservation Science and Technology for Cultural Heritage or Heritage Science.The potential candidates are expected to send CV and explain their interest for the position in a motivation letter.
