Public Finance Programme Co-Lead, NorwayWant to make the financial sector work for people and the climate? This might be the perfect position for you.The Nordic Center for Sustainable Finance works to phase out all finance to fossil fuels from financial institutions in the Nordic region. Focusing on Nordic banks, pension funds and public finance, we uncover and expose fossil fuel investments and offer advice on how to develop and implement oil, gas and coal exclusion policies. This new role will lead a campaign aiming to make the Norwegian Oil Fund more sustainable, mainly focusing on its investments in coal, oil and gas.The RoleThe role will primarily be responsible for developing and implementing our work on the Oil Fund, including, but not limited to, writing reports and briefs, leading communications efforts and driving our advocacy on the issue. The role will work closely with the other Public Finance Programme Co-Lead based in Oslo, the rest of the Nordic Center for Sustainable Finance and other civil society organisations in Norway and overseas.The Norwegian Oil Fund is the world’s largest Sovereign Wealth Fund and one of the most influential financial institutions in the global finance sector. Despite its climate ambitions, our research finds that it is still heavily invested in coal. Further, it is Europe’s single biggest investor in all fossil fuels. Its sheer size and its ambition to lead on climate globally makes it an important player internationally.The role will also support our work on the Norwegian export credit agency, Eksfin and potentially other workstreams on banks and pension funds.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement strategy on the phase-out of the Oil Fund’s investments in coal, oil and gas companies;Write reports, briefs and other resources for various target audiences, focusing on the Oil Fund’s exposure to the fossil fuel industry, including its role and responsibility in the climate crisis;Develop and implement a communication plan for the campaign, including identifying key opportunities, moments and target audiences to secure compelling media coverage on the topic;Lead advocacy efforts aimed at various key stakeholders and decision-makersFurther work to build and strengthen the coalition in civil society working on the Oil Fund;Fundraise for work on the Oil Fund and potentially other work streams in Norway.Required skills, knowledge and experience (can include unpaid roles, grassroots, lived experience or other relevant transferable skills, knowledge and experience):Demonstrated ability and deep understanding of what drives policy change and how civil society can contribute to it;Excellent writing skills, with an ability to understand and analyse complex policy issues and communicate them clearly to various audiences;A commitment to taking climate action and deep understanding of how social justice is a key part of climate justiceDesirable skills, knowledge and experience:Experience in stakeholder engagement, including with government, political and other decision-makers;Media relations experience in Norway, including pitching and landing stories;Well-developed relationships building and networking skills.Existing network within the Norwegian climate movement, the Norwegian political parties and the Norwegian media landscape;Knowledge about fossil fuels and their role in driving the climate crisis;Deep understanding of the financial sector and the role it plays in backing the fossil fuel industry;Experience in fundraising, specifically in writing grant proposals and reports.Personal competencies: You have a deep passion to combat the climate crisis, pro-actively contributing to strengthening the theory of change for the overall project and a flexible approach to carrying out the task with a deep personal commitment and responsibilityYou can create a solid overview of complex subject matters and organizational structures and strategic priorities.You can engage with diverse stakeholders – from activists to investments directors - with empathy and credibilityYou can communicate very specific and in-depth thematic information to people with different professional backgrounds creating insight and support for the issues.Fluent in Norwegian and EnglishIf you are passionate about climate action and justice, understand that we cannot tackle the climate crisis without taking on the fossil fuel industry, and have experience in creating political change, this is the role for you.We recognize that different forms of discrimination create barriers that impact opportunities to formal education and experience.
